Strategic Location Incentive Program (SLIP) is a Marine Corps initiative that enables career Marines to volunteer for difficult-to-fill duty stations—overseas, remote, or requiring specialized training—in exchange for a guaranteed follow-on duty station of their choice. The program supports career progression, improves retention, and fills critical staffing needs. Eligible Marines must be in reenlistment zones B, C, or D with valid reenlistment codes and sufficient service obligation to complete both tours.
SLIP is established under MARADMIN 470/24 (Strategic Location Incentive Program), effective 1 October 2024. The program originated as a crowd-sourced submission winning the Manpower Modernization Challenge II (MARADMIN 643/23). Implementation follows MCO 1300.8 (Marine Corps Personnel Assignment Policy) and Marine Corps Total Force System (MCTFS) procedures. Individual PMOS monitors determine which assignments qualify as difficult-to-fill or critical for their specialties.
