Scope
MARADMIN 433/26 gives advance notice of increases to the monthly payment amounts of Hostile Fire Pay (HFP) and Imminent Danger Pay (IDP). The message updates the monthly amounts only. Every other provision of the governing references stays in effect, and existing Service procedures for HFP and IDP remain in effect. Applicability is the Marine Corps Total Force.
Rate change
Effective 1 October 2026.
- HFP increases to 450 dollars per month.
- IDP increases to 275 dollars per month, prorated at 9.16 dollars per day against the actual time spent in a designated imminent danger area.
IDP has been a daily prorated entitlement since 31 December 2011 under the FY12 National Defense Authorization Act. The increase raises the prorated ceiling and the daily divisor result. It does not change the proration mechanic.
The increase ends the long-standing parity between the two rates. From 1 October 2026 the HFP monthly amount exceeds the IDP monthly ceiling by 175 dollars.
Downstream effect on Combat Zone Tax Exclusion
For commissioned officers, the monthly Combat Zone Tax Exclusion ceiling equals the highest rate of enlisted basic pay plus the amount of HFP or IDP the officer draws. The rate increase raises that ceiling for any officer entitled to either pay. An officer drawing HFP adds 450 dollars to the ceiling. An officer drawing prorated IDP adds the prorated amount up to 275 dollars.
