MARADMIN 018/26 - Enterprise Generative Artificial Intelligence Availability and Governance

Scope

MARADMIN 018/26 announces GenAI.mil as the Marine Corps enterprise generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) platform. The Department of War fielded GenAI.mil as the enterprise platform. The Marine Corps consolidates duplicative, general-purpose GenAI usage onto GenAI.mil to optimize resources and standardize the user experience. The MARADMIN supersedes MARADMIN 496/24. Applicability is the Marine Corps Total Force.

Audience

• Marines, Department of the Navy civilians, and contractors using government-furnished equipment. Authorized to use GenAI.mil immediately.
• Deputy Commandant for Information (DC I). Designated governance authority. Approves any separate GenAI capability proposal.
• Service Data Office (SDO). Owns the AI lead and service data officer roles.
• Commanders. Coordinate with DC I before procuring or fielding any separate GenAI capability.
• Information security officers. Verify users follow CUI handling rules.

Platform availability

• Login URL https://genai.mil.
• Authorized for Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
• Barred from Personally Identifiable Information (PII), Protected Health Information (PHI), and classified information.
• Capabilities at release. Conversational chat. File upload (PDF, DOCX, TXT). Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG). Secure web grounding. Deep research. Persistent chat histories.
• Planned. Higher classification networks, Marine Corps data integration, agentic AI development, API access.

User responsibility

• GenAI tools are non-deterministic. Output is allowed to be inaccurate, biased, or incomplete.
• Critically evaluate and verify every output before using it for official purposes.
• The user remains accountable for products derived from the system.

Governance

• DC I is the designated authority over GenAI capabilities. Any command or organization developing, procuring, or fielding a separate GenAI capability coordinates with and receives DC I approval before initiation. Ensures interoperability, security, and no duplication.
• NIPRGPT is sunsetting. NIPRGPT is no longer available for use.
• Other authorized GenAI systems (example, CamoGPT) remain authorized for their intended and approved purpose where the system meets the requirements for use on government systems.
